More About where Hoodia Comes From – the Kalahari Desert
May 29th, 2008
Hoodia has been changing lives left and right, but what do we really know about where it comes from? All real Hoodia products are created from the extract that comes from the Hoodia Gordonii plant, which is able to grow in only one place – the Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari desert is a very unusual desert that resides in southern Africa. Scientists do not consider it to be a true desert, for the simple fact that it does get around 3 to 7 inches of rain a year. Because of this there are animals and plants that are able to grow in the desert that can not grow anywhere else in the world.
The San Bushmen have been living in the Kalahari desert for over 20,000 years. They lived off of the land, gathering the food that was around them, such as nuts and berries, and hunting wild game to get their meat. They used the Hoodia Gordonii plant to be able to stave off hunger whenever they had to go on a long hunting journey. The Kalahari Desert is a place like no other in the world, with amazing people, animals, and plants like Hoodia Gordonii.
