Hoodia and the CITES Permit
May 16th, 2008
If Hoodia is such an amazing product, how come it is not sold by the bucket full all around the world? This is a valid question that many people have about this wonderful weight loss product. Hoodia products are created using the extract from the Hoodia Gordonii plant, a plant which only grows in certain deserts in South Africa. Because it is so rare, the South African government has decided to protect it the best that it can.
In order to purchase any part of the Hoodia Gordonii plant, it is necessary to have an official CITES permit. This permit allows the company that possesses it to purchase Hoodia Gordonii in order to use it in their weight loss supplements. Only a few companies are given access to the CITES permit. Before you order Hoodia, make sure that the company you are buying your supply from has an official CITES permit. If they do not, you are almost certainly dealing with a company that is using “fake” Hoodia (chemicals that are made that many swear works just as well as Hoodia, although research has shown that they do not). An official CITES permit will separate the real companies from the unreal ones in the world of Hoodia.
