BBC News Report on Hoodia

It was only a matter of time before the quiet lives of the nomadic tribesmen who are called the Bushmen of the Kalahari were found out by the rest of the world. Or more exactly, it was only a matter of time before the plant that they'd used for 100,000 years to suppress their appetite for long journeys in search of food and shelter was discovered by the diet-crazed Western World

It was none less than Tom Mangold that wrote the piece for the BBC's on line division and the news he captured about the plant that takes years to grow and only does well in its Kalahari Desert home reinforced what people who have either tried the supplements or heard testimonials from those who had already knew. That Hoodia works.

The article goes on to describe the quiet unassuming people that the Bushmen are, and Mangold mentions in his piece that they don't seem to understand the size of the goldmine they are sitting on. But these native people who have been doing things in the same fashion are about to get an introduction into the real world starting with their South African lawyer who's negotiating the royalties that ensure the only Hoodia sold comes from these people.

This unusual situation is a testament to how the plant works to suppress appetite and actually trick the mind into telling the body that it's full. Only the heart of the plant is used to get the full appetite suppression effect and the only Hoodia that's considered to be genuine comes from the Kalahari Desert. Even though a major drug company has taken over production on a government run farm, the Bushmen still get their royalties.

In the article both Mangold and his cameraman try the plant and describe a pleasant sensation and a lack of even thought about food that lasted for a full twenty-four hours before their appetites returned. By their own admission, the Hoodia plant they sampled worked magnificently.
